120 Bankstanding: why do i have 2081 buckets

but why tho

This article is a strategy guide for defeating your bank. It is part of a series on Double XP Live (May 2023).

Bossing is a core mechanic of many MMOs. Payers engage a significantly powerful enemy boss in hopes of securing a prize. Bossing can be done solo, or with a group.

RuneScape offers a variety of challenging boss content for all players. RuneScape’s most challenging boss can be found at the Grand Exchange in Varrock (and hundreds of locations around the game world).

That’s right. RuneScape’s toughest boss is … your bank.

he knows what he did

Don’t worry. With the right preparation, you can easily defeat this boss.

It can be overwhelming to return to RuneScape. You know “protagonist amnesia”? That old video game storytelling chestnut? I feel that when I log back into RuneScape after not playing for several years or months.

Like a Jason Bourne movie, I stumble to a bank where I dive facefirst into +1000 mystery icons.

?????????

Where am I? What am I wearing? What are these items?

Sometimes, facing this baffling array of icons was enough to make me log right back out for 3-4 months. It’s easy to get lost in your bank when you log back into a game like RuneScape.

Over the years, your bank in an MMO becomes a dumping ground. Items move around, multiply, and lose meaning.

Why do I have 2081 buckets?

This is far from the weirdest thing anything has ever found in their bank, but I’m honestly confused. Was I training something? Did I think GP was going to collapse, and leave in its place a shadow bucket market?

What’s a Baron Shark? Why do I have 130 of them? Where do they come from?

What gear is optimal? What’s good anymore? Why do I have so many tabs?

For the majority of returning players, the answer can be found in (say it with me now!!) the RS Wiki, YouTube content, or any other supplementary game resource. However, I am a stubborn woman. I want to play the video game right now, not complete an introductory study course.

Bank tabs help many players organize their banks. There are many schools of thought for good bank organization, and you can find that content in places that are not this blog.

When your junk tab takes over your whole bank and you stop organizing your bank (or remembering how you were organizing it in the first place) it can be difficult to stay engaged with your MMO.

Back in the day, weapons like Abyssal Whip, Dragon Dagger, Rune Scimitar, and Staff of Light were viable in pvp, or were considered the best. I have hung onto my originals of many of those items. These are Tier 60-70 items and weapon with an invisible +60 emotional boost.

At one time, I intended my “Overloads” tab to be the place for slayer gear, combat items, and food. At some point, cosmetic and skilling items got into the mix, and we never went back. I have no idea what anything in here does anymore.

Unknown items in my bank go through the following analysis:

  1. Can I sell it
  2. Can I alch it
  3. Can I dissassemble it
  4. Can I destroy it and not feel bad

Thankfully, there are ways to clear out unwanted skill, or clue items. Diango in Draynor Village will hold onto most cosmetic, skilling, or event items. Clue Hidey-holes can be built around RuneScape to store items and equips useful only for clue hunting. Plus, a player-owned-house can have places to hold cosmetic items of value.

Now that I am playing the game again, I have been relying purely on the search feature. One of these days I will tackle and organize this bank again… but it is a slow process.

Some of the best advice about RuneScape I have heard came from a Twitch streamer. Ages ago, Ash (twitch.tv/ashshley) told me not to worry about how to play RuneScape optimally. She recommended to focus on a goal or goals, pick something to do, and have fun!

That advice has stuck with me, and kept me around mostly in 2023.
