I Got 99 Woodcutting in 2023, Now I Never Have to Cut A Wood Again

Here’s a Simpson’s gif I associate with MMOs.

Homer Simpson rolling down a cliff.

You never really quit RuneScape. I started playing again recently this year.

Learning an MMO takes time, but is easier than it used to be. Over the years, players pooled their knowledge into widely available resources. Using these resources, it’s possible to optimize everything in an MMO from your xp rates to your drop rates, to your bossing strategies.

For players who learn their MMOs every intricacy, it can be unthinkable to walk away. You never truly quit. After all, that pool of knowledge is available to draw from whenever you log back in. As long as the lights are on, an MMO can tempt players to return.

For Double XP Live (May 2023), I decided to finally level Woodcutting to 99.

Woodcutting is one of RuneScape’s original skills. Leveling Woodcutting to 99 is easier in 2023 than it was in 2003. The game practically throws bonus XP at you, and there are better skilling methods and tools available.

I asked friends and clanmates what method they recommended to get Woodcutting to 99. Most players haven’t had to think about leveling Woodcutting in 2023.

Better late than never, right? Actually, there were at least 3 things wrong with this plan:

  • The skill may be getting reworked soon*
  • I get annoyed at RuneScape really easily
  • I post online when annoyed at RuneScape

The skill getting reworked soon* doesn’t bother me. So goes the grand cycle of MMOs. New content and skilling methods get added to make it easier for new players to level their accounts. OG players clicked repetitive bullshit till their eyes bled in 2007. Nowadays, you can level Arch from 35-99 with just lamps (youtube/@TakerStreams)

Still, training bamboo with a Dragon Hatchet has been slow. Like……. real slow.

Watching your character do the same animation day in and day out has caused the following strange thoughts to leap, fully-formed, into my head:

  1. Simply chop faster. !!!! You only get XP when you gain a log/wood. Yo, just chop faster. We can be done faster -.-
  2. I have a giant magic scythe that kills monsters. Why can’t I use the giant magic scythe to knock the tree down and get some logs faster? For that matter, why can’t I use magic and just blow it up?

I’m just salty that I don’t have Crystal Trees or Tools.

Still, one day soon I will proudly don my level 99 Woodcutting cape!

By the way, shoutout to RuneScape players who “gzzzz” noobs like me for 99ing basic skills they probably got to 99 (or 200m lmao) like 15 years ago.
